HELP I HAVE FALLEN INTO A RUT AND I CAN’T GET UP!

OK SO I HAVEN’T MADE DINNER WHICH CONSISTS OF VEGGIES, OR A MEAT EVEN IN OVER A WEEK.  I KNOW THAT IS MY PROBLEM.  I WANT TO EAT JUNK FOOD! MY BODY IS CRAVING THE SUGAR AND SWEET STARCHES.  I HAVE BEEN MAKING FAIRLY DECENT CHOICES (CEREAL WITH NO MILK FOR DINNER- 3 BOWLS!) LOWFAT CEREAL, BUT I HAVE BEEN SKIPPING DINNER TO CUT THE CALORIES.  NOW I KNOW IF I WAS TO EAT MY VEGGIES, AND MY CHKN FOR PROTEIN THAT I WOULD WANT LOTS LESS OF THE SUGGARRRY CEREAL AND THAT WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME, ALSO I BOUGHT A WHOLE BOX OF CAPTAIN CRUNCH P-NUT BUTTER AND ATE THE WHOLE THING IN 24 HRS. SO NOW I KNOW I CAN’T BUY THAT AGAIN, HEY ITS NOT TOO BAD FOR YOU AS ARE OTHER THINGS IF YOU CAN EAT THEM IN MODERATION! THE PROBLEM IS WHEN PEOPLE TELL ME THINGS, IE. YOU LOOK GREAT YOU NEED TO STOP LOSING WEIGHT. ETC. I TAKE THEM TO HEART AND FEEL AS IF I CAN EAT AND EAT AND EAT! WHICH I KNOW IS WRONG AND THAT IS WHAT GOT ME INTO THIS MESS TO BEGIN WITH.  I HAVE DONE SO WELL, AND HAVE FOLLOWED MY OWN ADVICE AND DIET PLAN AND NOW I AM LETTING GO?…AND FOR WHAT? TO GAIN IT ALL BACK/ NOW I AM NOT LETTING GO BY ANY MEANS, I HAVE HAD NO RED MEAT IN MONTHS, AND I WAS VERY DISCIPLINED AT HALLOWEEN, BUT THE TOOTSIE ROLLS HAVE BEEN CALLING ME, THE SUGAR IS THE PROBLEM…..IT IS LIKE ALL OF A SUDDEN I FEEL THE NEED TO MUNCH.  IF I ATE MY DINNER AT NIGHT I KNOW I WOULD NOT FEEL THIS WAY.  AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE MORE I EAT THE MORE I WANT RECENTLY IT SEEMS, I AM NEVER GONNA REACH MY GOAL THIS WAY! I AM SO CLOSE YET I AM MY TOUGHEST CRITIC, AND I GIVE IN TO MY EVIL SUBCONSCIEN THAT SAYS AW COME ON SUGARRY CEREAL CAN’T HURT….BUT I KNOW DARN WELL IT CAN! I NEED TO GET MY BUTT BACK ON THAT TREADMILL TOO AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES! SO I HAVE FALLEN AND I NEED SOME HELP BACK UP! ANYBODY GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS? ANGIE

Limit cereal to breakfast. YOu need to eat all three meals. Cereal is low fat and all but the sugar in as you know is not good. You can do it. Look how far you’ve come. You can do it! I know you can! GOod luck!

I know exactly what you mean. That’s why I stopped buying my favorite kinds of cereal. I still buy it, but I only buy what my grandson will eat. Actully, I buy Kashi for me and he’ll eat it. But for some reason I think he needs to have the kid cereals. Go figure! The smart thing to do is not to have it in your house. And Shelley is right, at least three meals a day. I also try to have some kind of a fruit in between for a snack. That helps me out a lot. If I get the munchies in the evening, I pull out a few Nabisco Tricuits and snack on those. If I don’t watch out, I’ll be up at midnight with a bowl of cereal or cookies and milk. Stay strong and keep trying. You can do it.

Hey buddy…don’t yo-yo like I did. I jumped from a 136 to 145, then went on a week long vacation only to see me at 149 when I got back. I have to work extra extra hard now. Stay strong, have some zero point soup and some egg whites along with lots of water.

Ang - I had to laugh lol because cereal is my weakness too! But I gave it up because of the sugar. I did eat a bowl of raisin bran crunch yesterday) and it was good but it was for the laxative affect lol! Anyway you can do this and so can I. I ate a yogurt and granola with a banana and 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast today! Take care and let’s do this!!!!

Angie, calm down, step back, look at your diet and think what you need to do. Breakfast = cerial, milk, yogurt, fruit, whole wheat toast, things like that. Lunch = tuna/chicken salad, whole wheat turkey sandwich, fruit, carrots, soup with a few oyster crackers or croutons in it, etc,
snacks = trail mix with fruit and nuts, fruit, crunchy veges, yogurt etc, dinner = fish, chicken, pork, even lean red meat, home cooked stews, crock pot cooking, vegetables, fruit, whole wheat bread, potatoes (not fries) etc etc etc. Eat well, keep full and drink LOTS of water and treat your self to low fat icecream, a bit of chocolate or something sweet that you like AFTER your meal.
You can get back on track and beat this sugar craving if you eat properly so what are you waiting for?!!
    Won’t let you get down!

Angie, Sounds like you’ve got a bit of a self-sabotage going on. I’ve been there, done that. You also sound like you’re relying mostly on removing temptations from your diet and that’s hard to live up to. At least for me it is. I would recommend a few things in addition to the advice you’ve been given. One is this: get protein in the morning to start the day off right. And when you bring in trigger foods (trail mix is a good crunchy treat for me but it definitely qualifies as a trigger!) I always immediately portion it out in those little snack size baggies. I find that I can eat a whole bag of cashews if I’m not careful, but if I take the time to create the right portions beforehand, I’d NEVER eat 6 little bags of cashews. It’s a mind game! Thanks for sharing your struggles. I get them completely. More than I care to admit. I admire your self-awareness and your focus. Ellen
